In North London, lying between East Finchley, Highgate and Muswell Hill, Highgate Wood is a 28 hectare (70 acre) area[1] of ancient woodland. It has spaces for cricket, football, cafe and children’s playground. It has a strong diversity of wildlife such as invertebrate species,moth, fungi and bird species. There are more than 50 species of trees and shrubs in Highgate wood. Oak, Hornbeam and Holly are the most common ones. Highgate Wood is a Nature Conservation Site of Metropolitan Importance. It is now listed in London as one of only eight Green Heritage Sites. 

What to Do Highgate Wood in London?

You can easily access Highgate Wood from Highgate Station on the London Underground’s Northern Line. It is parallel to the A1 road and is located about 10 km (6 miles) north of Charing Cross, well within the metropolitan area of London.

Heritage values include the variety of archaeological sites, including earthworks; ancient and veteran trees as core features of the landscape; Victorian period innovations and wartime use of the wood.

There are walking events that you can join on the weekends. This is a perfect Saturday walk with your loved ones. You will be able to stalk the trees and explore many different species.

It is a perfect place to relax and chill out

This is a visit to a local park and a great place to burn calories all year round. It’s great to find a peaceful shaded place in summer to read or chill thoroughly absorbed in the trees and tiny sounds of the city. Such convenient access is very close to Highgate Tube and there are several buses that travel nearby for tourists.

It is a forest inside the city

It has 70 acres of greenery. The trees are prehistoric and should also be considered a Woodland Park. Both walking paths are mud paths; no asphalt or granite is used anywhere. 

The greenery is amazing and safe. 

A children’s play area which is covered is towards the church lane.

Yes, it is open everyday from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm in winter and till 9.15 pm in summer.
