Can anyone have dental implants?
As Cure Booking, we are seeing more and more patients day after day and our patients wonder whether anyone can have dental implants or not. Generally speaking, every adult who has lost a tooth or teeth may be considered a potential dental implant candidate, but based on a variety of reasons, whether or not it is a reasonable choice for them. Dental implants are not for everyone who has missing teeth or a tooth, that is why you should attend an initial consultation with the best Turkish dentists so that a decision is made for the suitability for dental implants. Medical X-rays, medical history and oral examination should be assessed. This will help patients to decide on the treatment, talk about their concerns and ask relevant questions to the dentist. When can you not have dental implants?
Oral surgery should be done to replace the implants and as in any type of surgeries, some people may not be an appropriate candidate for the operation. Patients who are suitable for dental implants should have the following:
Appropriate Candidates for Dental Implants
Sufficient Jawbone in the Mouth: Because a tooth implant needs to fuse with the bone in the jaw, it is essential in that area to have a decent supply of healthy bone. Osseointegration happens when the bone fuses with the metal products used in the dental treatments which makes the implants more durable. Implants may fail due to insufficient bone in the jaw around the area where the dental implants will be installed. If you do not have enough bone, there may be a need for bone grafting before the implant surgery. If you have missing teeth in your mouth for a long time, you should not wait because the jawbone gradually starts to deteriorate and get worse.
Having no Gum Disease: Gum diseases are the main cause of teeth loss. So, when you lose a tooth, you may eventually need dental implants. Any dentist in Turkey will tell you gum diseases give harm to teeth. It can also pose a serious risk and is often the cause of implant failure. Therefore, if a patient has gum disease, it will first have to be treated. And then, he/she can consider getting dental implants in Turkey.
Good physical and oral health: Being fit and healthy can ensure that you can tolerate the procedure as well as any complications or risks involved with implant surgery. You will not be found an appropriate candidate for dental implants if you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or leukaemia or have received radiation therapy in the jaw or neck region. Also, if you are a smoker, you need to stop smoking before the implant surgery for several weeks as smoking delays recovery and healing time.
This article hopefully will give you an answer to who is not suitable for dental implants.
What happens when you do not have enough bone for dental implants?
Losing a tooth is not the end of the world anymore. It may be frustrating, but the good news is that there are some teeth replacement alternatives available. Many people have the option of installing teeth implants in addition to dentures or bridgework, consisting of a titanium post that connects to the jaw bone for strength and stability, as well as a crown or artificial tooth that bonds to the post and feels and functions much like the real tooth you lose.
There is a limitation, of course. You must have good oral hygiene and you need to have enough jaw bone to sustain the implant in order to be considered for a tooth implant in Turkey. What if I don’t have enough bones in my jaw? Are you stuck with dentures, or is another alternative available?
Do I have enough bone to get dental implants?
As we said, if you have a missing tooth for a long while, your jaw bone will start to deteriorate. Or if you have abscess or infection in your teeth that need to be treated before the implant, your jaw bone may no longer be competent to support an implant. In these cases, you may need bone grafting which builds up the bone again.
This technique requires taking your own bone from other parts of the body where it is not needed and grafting it to the bone of your jaw to create adequate volume to hold an implant. The bone is taken from another part of the mouth most commonly, and it normally takes at least about three months to bond with the current bone to become solid enough to sustain the implant.
Other treatments such as sinus elevation/augmentation or ridge extension could be expected based on the condition, and these may add several months of recovery time to your treatment plan before implantation is appropriate.
Bone grafting could provide a cure for patients who lack an adequate amount of jaw bone to fit implants. It does not work for every patient, especially if the area has been compromised by serious trauma or infection. You should explore the probability of implants with your dentist in Turkey and figure out whether you are a good candidate for implants or whether current bone augmentation is an alternative to make dental implants possible.
